When my daughter Alison was born, in the tradition of a new parent, I began to photograph her, initially in a separate and private body of work. However, in the process of documenting Alison's growth, I developed a passionate interest in human relationships and capturing intimate moments in the lives of family and friends. This affected my photography in a profound way.Photography, Fine Arts2007 -

Here again, the pictures reflect a reality outside their boundaries. It is as though the presence of the hospice workers behind the scenes, the unceasing support of their patients' efforts to be aware and to be comfortable, enters the pictorial ambiance despite the single, minded concentration on the physical particularities of the people being photographed.Fine Arts, Photography, Photojournalism2009 -
I began photographing Beppi and Stephen in 1992. They met while Beppi was in college studying art, married shortly after she graduated, and have since had three children, Gunnar, Ivana, and Strom. Beppi and Stephen share a passion for dress up: Beppi in vintage clothing or home-constructed outfits, such as a jacket with fabric appliqué of Jesus or a dress made of blinking lights; Stephen in woman's clothing.
Stephen had worked in construction, but now earns most of his income as an exotic dancer. Beppi worked as a masseuse and for a psychic hotline, but is now a full-time mother and part-time cartoonist. Beppi's sister, Mary is a poet and performance artist. For the moment, Beppi and Mary are collaborating on an underground comic strip. Visit them here.
Beppi and Stephen admit they come from dysfunctional families, which makes their strong marital bond, their desire for a large family, and the way they relate as husband and wife as well as mother and father, so compelling. Though unconventional in employment and pastimes, they have successfully built a traditional family structure.Photography, Fine Arts2007 -

It was one of those two hour What Color is Your Parachute seminars @UMBC, thought id check it out to get some direction and focus. I had been working@ The Horrible Place aka the harbor for a minute doing the retail thing, anyway i go to this seminar and the first question we are asked toponder is,"What would you do for free?"
Simple right?
Well kinda,I immediately think of laying around naked all day and smoking the ghanga. Itwas an organic response, so to speak, anyway I say this, out loud, and notto be outdone by the smart ass in the front row, the facilitator says, "Well i cant help on the illegal part, but have you ever considered being a art model?"
I have been an art model ever since.Photography, Fine Arts2009 -

In the 1970’s and 80’s I lived on the Mason-Dixon line, the symbolic cultural division between the North and South. As I became part of that world, I immersed myself in its complexities and contradictions.Fine Arts, Photography, Visual Arts2008
